I feel like I am too 'disconnected' from estimating programs in some ways. I still find myself using my Excel templates for a lot of my work. But because of this the database maintenance can also be a chore with price updates and new products and such. On Screen Takeoff & Quick Bid are not as good at the actual takeoff (zooming, panning, switching pages), but together OST/QB are great for commercial projects with lots of line items. The prepackaged templates are ok, but probably won't do everything exactly the way you want. However it lacks flexibility unless you have a complete understanding of code. Planswift is great for doing the actual takeoff and manipulating plans. Either program will work, but each have their strengths and weaknesses, costs aside. I use both Planswift & the OST/QB bundle to do my estimating. Today all I do is estimate projects so I have lots of experience in this field. I have 30+ years in this business with almost half of that time in estimating and project management.
